Dark Ages: How Dark Were They Really?
In Medieval times there was a variety of light and dark. Personal hygiene, Black Death, Trial by Ordeal, women's rights, and life expectancy were mostly bad, if we searched we could find glimmers of light. Gothic Cathedrals, religion, trade, technological advancements, and education, things like that made the Dark Ages lighter. When we hear the words ‘Dark Ages’ we think knights, wars, castles, mobs of angry people, but if we were to look a little deeper we would find the light things about the Medieval Times. In the middle there is the Crusades, hierarchy, medieval medicine, and feudalism. Those things only benefit one person, the other may be miserable. In the Dark Ages there was two perspectives, the higher rankings, and the lower rankings. The higher rankings got more, received more. The lower rankings got less, earned less. If we were learning about the Middle Ages from the higher rankings, almost everything would be good. If we were to learn from the lower rankings mostly all would be bad. Was this time really dark? Or have we completely misunderstood this time in history?
